KA‘UHANE LANDS is a full-service, Maui-based landscape design company and plant nursery.

Owner and designer Drew Mota creates a harmonious blend of plants suited to each project environment, rooted in permaculture values. This translates to design principles that center on whole systems in natural ecosystems. Within the landscape, plants support each other from cover crops to windbreaks to ornamentals and edibles.

When landscape designer and nursery owner Drew Mota looks at a bare dirt lot, he sees plants. He sees the way they might change and grow over time, the way they might blend together in a harmonious landscape, the way they provide sustenance, shade, beauty and joy.

For Mota, growing, creating, designing and working with plants is his life’s path, and through the years this absorption has grown into a successful island business, KA‘UHANE LANDS.

A desire to learn homesteading skills first led him into growing food and learning about ecosystem designs. Mota's travels have taken him to many of the top botanical gardens and parks throughout Europe, Asia, Mexico, the U.S., Canada and Central America, seeing the beauty and inspiration at every stop. His respect and appreciation for all cultures influences and adds value to his designs.

Beyond the “idea” of landscape, Mota enjoys the hard work that comes with bringing his extraordinary designs into reality. For this dedicated landscape designer, physical labor is part of the process, and putting plants into the soil is part of the commitment.

Disciplined, organized and thorough, Mota brings a generous spirit — and serious plant vision — to each and every project.
